After a year of training and examinations, Siena Heights University professors Pradeep Ranaweera, Krishanthi Weerasinghe, and Jun Tsuji earned certifications as robotics instructors from FANUC, the world-leading manufacturer of robotic arms and automation systems.
The journey began with months of online learning covering the components and operations of an industrial 6-axis robotic arm. Then the professors completed intensive, 4-day-long, training sessions at FANUC’s North American headquarters. Months of additional studying followed culminating with a rigorous 3-hour-long NOCTI exam that tested in depth knowledge of robotic handling, operations, and programming. The professors then had to create and submit a robotics course syllabus and separate teaching videos for FANUC’s approval.
As a result of their accomplishments, Siena Heights University is now a FANUC-certified education training program. Through this program, SHU students can receive FANUC-approved robotics training and earn FANUC robotics operator certification. This program further strengthens the SHU engineering program by offering hands-on experiences and industry-recognized credentials that employers are looking for. FANUC certifications allow students to document their knowledge as they enter high-paying careers in robotics and advanced manufacturing.
