Built halfway between downtown Adrian and the railroad stations that brought the city its wealth, the Burnham Historical Building represents a grand example of the Italianate architectural style of the mid-nineteenth-century. The house, built during the Civil War, became a symbol of wealth and power with several of its owners serving as bankers and presidents of prominent industries.
