The Metalsmithing and Sculpture programs at Siena Heights University have evolved together over the past twenty-eight years. Both programs are currently based on an integration model that allows them to interact easily. In the spirit of contemporary Metalsmithing, a curriculum has been developed that includes all forms of metalworking as avenues for investigation beginning with jewelry making. Students are presented with an environment that emphasizes traditional techniques as well as current innovation. Particular attention is paid to the exploration and understanding of technique, materials and their integration into personal vision.

Metalsmithing has evolved beyond its traditional boundaries to include interdisciplinary lines of investigation. These include techniques that relate to printmaking, painting, photography, graphics and ceramics. Students are encouraged to pursue their creative visions regardless of their traditional or non-traditional nature.
