Teaching
Statement
For years I have painted and taught primarily in watercolor, a deceptively
unpretentious medium that remembers each brushstroke and records every
mark and decision of the painter. Watercolor, like life, seems to
work best when approached with observation and attention, a little
skill and some freedom, and a balance of spontaneity and control.
I see my role as one of helping students to notice what they are doing
as they continue to work through the inevitable disappointments and
frustrations of learning, and to encourage them to stay faithful to
the process of making art, which in time yields such rich rewards. |
