Theatre Siena will present a special performance of “The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later,” from Feb. 6-8 in the Stubnitz Lab Theater on the campus of Siena Heights University.
Trudy McSorley, a longtime SHU theater faculty member who first directed “The Laramie Project” on campus in 2003-04, is coming out of retirement to direct her final production.
“The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later” depicts the reaction to the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay student at the University of Wyoming. This high-profile case spurred the passage of hate crime legislation across the country. The play addresses issues such as prejudice and tolerance.
Curtain times are at 8 p.m. each evening, and there will be a special “talk-back” forum after each performance in the Performing Arts Center. This thought-provoking show is targeted for those high school age and older.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students. Seating is limited for each performance.
