Siena Heights University Professor of Marketing Claudia Blanchard and Professor of Art Christine Reising will present their two-part sabbatical exhibition “3+3+3=Women of Worth: Opening Doors to Social Change” and “Saudade” from April 7-26 in the Klemm Gallery.
“Women of Worth” is a collaborative sabbatical project by Blanchard and Reising exploring the development of women's corporate social responsibility through the comparison of historical businesswomen to contemporary female business leaders. Taking two years to complete, the project examined three female executives from three time periods working in three different arts-related, usually male-oriented industries. The project is comprised of two parts: a research paper authored by Blanchard and the visual component designed by Reising.
"Saudade" is a suite of work reflecting Reising's sabbatical journey in Spain in April 2013. Saudade, a Galician word, refers to deep emotions of loss felt after the death of a loved one; in other usages it can mean nostalgia, melancholy, longing, a lost lover or emptiness. All familiar themes in Reising's work, she borrowed the word for her title. Comprised of monoprint collages and an installation, the work in "Saudade" reflects on the artist's experiences and memories of Spain, pays tribute to the Victorian poet Rosalia Castro and contemplates her departure after a 30-year career at SHU.
