Work Study Guidelines

All of the departments at Siena Heights University rely on work study students.  You are a vital part of our operation.  Below is a list of general guidelines that briefly describe what is expected of work study students.  Your supervisor may have additional guidelines that you must follow. This is not intended to be an all inclusive list.

Please read the following list carefully.

  • It is the students’ responsibility to obtain a position on campus.  If you are having trouble finding a job, please come to the Financial Aid Office prior to the second week of classes.
  • Students must complete the required payroll forms at the Human Resource Office before a position will be approved. Please provide two acceptable forms of identification. Acceptable forms are:  A Driver’s License and/ or Birth Certificate or Social Security Card or U.S. Passport.
  • The work study authorization form, with the required signatures, must be turned in to the Financial Aid Office before employment will be granted.
  • Work study students are allowed to work up to 8 hours per week.  Students are not permitted to make up hours or allowed to work during scheduled breaks without permission from the Financial Aid Office.  You can not work when classes are not in session.
  • Confidentiality is required in most offices.  Breach of confidentiality could result in immediate dismissal and possible legal consequences. If you are dismissed from a work study position, you may not be eligible to apply for another position in University work study program.
  • Work study students are paid minimum wage, $7.15 per hour.
  • Timesheets are distributed to supervisors twice a month (you will be paid bi-monthly, according to the 2007-2008 Non- Exempt Pay Schedule). In order to guarantee payment, you must turn your signed timesheet in to the Human Resource Office in Sacred Heart Hall on the required date listed on the schedule.  It is the students’ responsibility to get the supervisor’s signature.  You will not be paid if the time sheet does not have both the student’s and the supervisor’s signatures. Timesheets must be turned in on a timely and consistent basis.

The Financial Aid Office does NOT guarantee work study placement, as there are a limited number of jobs. If you have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (517) 264-7137.
