VA Benefits Receiving Credit

Did you know that the training that you did in the military maybe worth college credit? Please submit your military transcripts to the Registrar’s Office for evaluation. Transcripts of your military training can be requested from any military branch of service. Please refer to the following listing of appropriate agencies when requesting military transcripts. When requesting your transcript, you should supply the following information: your full name (maiden if appropriate), service number, branch of service, active service dates, separation dates, rank, your current address, phone number, your signature, current date, and the address of the Registrar’s Office at Siena Heights University. *Note the Smart system will send them to us electronically.

New VA Recipients that plan on using benefits under the Post 9/11 GI bill need to apply for those benefits through VONAPP available under the following Web site http://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp or search the Web for gibill. NOTE: before you submit your application on-line, you should print a copy for your files. The VA Coordinator will need a copy of the signature page for your Siena Heights VA file. When you receive your certificate of eligibility from the VA for this program, you will need to fax or mail a copy to the VA Coordinator. The Registrar’s fax numbers is 517-264-7744, or send this information as an attachment to regr@sienaheights.edu

Past recipients of VA educational benefits will need to contact the VA directly when considering a change of program to the Post 9/11 program. If they are not changing programs, they will need to submit a Change of Place or Program—form directly to the Registrar’s Office. Click on the following Web link for all VA forms http://www4.va.gov/vaforms/

VOC REHAB or Chapter 35 recipients should contact the VA Coordinator at the Registrar’s Office directly. Call 517-264-7120, or e-mail regr@sienaheights.edu Voc Rehab veterans must supply information about their regional VA Counselor, and Chapter 35 recipients must supply their payee number.

Responsibilities of the student receiving VA Benefits

  • Contact the VA Coordinator directly with any questions about benefits
  • Fill in all applications and supply copies to the VA Coordinator in a timely fashion.
  • Inform the VA Coordinator directly about any enrollment changes throughout the semester.
  • If you are co-enrolled at another college or university. Both schools must process an attendance report to the VA. Both schools must exchange letters concerning this situation. The student must provide the VA Coordinator at Siena Heights (Primary School) with a copy of their schedule and the name and address of the VA Coordinator at the other school (Secondary) school.
  • Some programs (Montgomery GI bill) require students to verify their attendance directly to the VA. This is done by the student through the gibill WAVE Web site http://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/index.do or through the VA phone system. 1-877-823-2378.
  • If the VA payment does not cover the bill at Siena Heights, the veteran is responsible for payment.
  • It is the VA that sets payment amounts for enrollment.
