The parents of reigning 2011 American League MVP and Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander will visit the Siena Heights University campus Nov. 12 to promote their newly released book.
Richard and Kathy Verlander will sign their book “Rocks Across the Pond,” from 6-8 p.m. in the ballroom of Ledwidge Hall. A discussion with the authors will follow the book signing at approximately 7:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
According to a press release from the publisher, the book was written in hopes that other parents raising young athletes can gain something from the Verlanders’ experience, look back knowing that baseball is a great metaphor for life and that lessons learned last a lifetime. In “Rocks Across the Pond,” the authors tell the story of raising Justin and younger son, Ben, starting on the front lawn, where father and son threw their first pitch together, to Comerica Park, where Justin now pitches as a member of the Detroit Tigers. The book explains the joys and pitfalls of raising a modern day superstar.
The book will be available for purchase at the event, and the cost is $29.95. The book signing is sponsored by the SHU Student Engagement Office.
