Siena Heights University is inviting the community on campus for the second annual Operation: SERVE (Students, Employment, Resources, Veterans, Education) Opportunity Expo at Siena Heights University.
The job and resource event, which is co-sponsored by South Central Michigan Works!, Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology, Monroe County Community College, Gleaner Life Insurance Society, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and the Veterans Services Division of the Michigan Workforce Development Agency, is scheduled from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 10, 2011, in the SHU Fieldhouse. Attendance at the event is free and open to the public.
“Operation: SERVE brings together communities in Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee and Monroe counties as well as northwest Ohio,” said SHU Career Services Director Melissa Growden, event chairperson. “It highlights veterans, employment opportunities and available resources for our returning service members. We would like to invite college students, alumni, community members and veterans to this great opportunity.”
Participants are encouraged to attend one of the Boot Camp workshops offered at SHU prior to the job fair. Topics to be discussed include first impressions, basic interview skills, attire, navigating the job fair and resume critiques.
Besides displays and special giveaways for those attending on Nov. 10, there will also be a short program to honor those veterans who have served our country.
Growden said many area employers will be in attendance. Several area colleges and universities will also be present.
“Last year, more than 200 job seekers participated in Operation: SERVE,” Growden said. “And we are expecting an even larger turnout this year.”
Growden said she is still looking for event sponsors to help pay for some of the costs of the event.
