Siena Heights University announced that two Lenawee County seniors Kristina Henning and Anna Schmidt, and Gabrielle Corbin of Holt, Mich., were awarded the first Prestige Full Tuition Scholarships for their academic excellence. The new scholarship was created last fall, and students had to complete an application to be eligible for consideration.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher and a minimum ACT composite of 27 or higher (SAT verbal plus math of 1210 or higher). Other factors were considered, including International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP) or other honors coursework completed. A committee of Siena Heights faculty and staff chose the recipients from a strong pool of applicants.

"We are honored to offer this scholarship to our recipients and look forward to their contributions to the University,” said SHU Director of Admissions Sara Johnson. “We have three outstanding recipients who embody everything we want in a Siena Heights student.”

Henning is a senior at Adrian High School and the daughter of Brandon and Katrina Henning of Adrian.

“When I first learned about the scholarship, I was completely shocked,” Henning said. “I couldn't believe my ears that I had been selected. This opportunity to attend Siena Heights with the scholarship will make my dream of working in the medical field come true.”

Schmidt is a senior at Blissfield High School and the daughter of Ron and Barb Schmidt of Blissfield.

“When I first got the news … I cried because I was so happy,” Schmidt said. “This scholarship means so much to me, as I now know that I will be able to attend the university that is my first choice!”

Corbin is a senior at Holt High School.

“I was in complete shock when I first found out,” Corbin said. “It still hasn't completely settled in for me yet. I was really excited, though! The opportunity of having no college debt is something that is absolutely amazing, and I plan to take advantage of it 100 percent.”

Students can renew for an additional three years if they maintain a 3.5 GPA at Siena Heights and full-time enrollment on the Adrian campus.
