His students speak of his interactive and engaging lectures which make learning “incredibly fun and interesting” as he exposes them to a great variety of styles and media.  Barr’s personal passion for art history has influenced many to pursue careers in this or related fields of art.

Dr. Barr is also the director of the Klemm Gallery. Among his many activities, he developed a website and a self-guided walking tour brochure that features the 19th century vernacular architecture of Adrian. This project gained recognition from Imagining Michigan and earned the 2006 Stimson-Tsuji Research Award.

He has mentored many Siena Heights students and cares deeply about how they learn as well as how they apply what they have learned to their futures. Barr has also brought national and international artists to the Siena galleries.

A committee comprised of students and faculty members who have recently won the award receive nominations chose the recipient from among the nominees.
