Siena Heights University’s Creative Stages Youth Theatre Program will host its fall program from Sept. 13-Nov. 18.
The primary purpose of Theatre Siena’s Creative Stages' program is to foster personal development and to facilitate learning in the participants rather than to train actors for the stage.
Children ages 6-17 are invited to participate in the program. Throughout the program, the children explore and experience creative drama, a process-oriented form of drama which uses a variety of theatre techniques to create non-presentational learning experiences.
Participants will be guided to explore character development, stage movement, vocal expressions, sensory awareness, problem solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
Here are the following categories of classes by age group:
Grades 1-3: MONDAYS · 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Informal drama experiences in which students will have opportunities to develop skills of physical awareness and control, verbal expression, concentration and problem-solving abilities while participating in small and large group creative dramatics activities.
ADVANCED CREATIVE DRAMATICS
Grades 4-6: TUESDAYS · 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Students will develop adventures through improvisation, creative dramatics, story drama, pantomime, and theater games. Emphasis is on improvisation, verbal expression, role playing, character development, and movement.
STAGE SIENA/YOUNG ACTOR’S WORKSHOP
Grades 7-12: THURSDAYS · 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Students will explore advanced theater skills through a variety of activities including improvisation, character development, movement for the stage and scene work.
Classes are taught by educational theatre professionals and practitioners as well as Siena Heights ‘teaching artists.’ With over 40 years of working with children and youth, the program takes great pride in nurturing the creative spirit while offering developmentally appropriate activities that teach the practical skills of performing on stage.
NOTE: Students wishing to perform in Theatre Siena’s Youth Theatre winter production must register for BOTH this session and again for the winter term.
