About the Program

Learn more about the Leadership degree program at Siena Heights University

The Master of Arts in Leadership (MAL) program is designed to prepare working professionals for expanded leadership roles in a wide variety of organizations in the fields of business, education, government, health care, industry, law enforcement, and elsewhere. Leadership students may choose from five different concentrations offered at a combination of our six campuses: Adrian, Battle Creek, Benton Harbor, Lansing, Monroe and Southfield:

  • Health Care
  • Higher Education
  • Homeland Security & Emergency Management
  • Not-For-Profit
  • Organizational

This 36-credit-hour degree involves a set of 6 “common core” courses (18 credits) required for all concentrations, plus a set of 6 courses (required and elective, 18 credits total) specific to each concentration. Most of the courses are taught in a “blended” (half-online) format, to suit the busy lifestyles of working professionals. This enables students to complete up to two courses per semester, and complete the leadership M.A. degree in as little as two years.

The focus of the leadership program is personal development which is owned, directed, and developed by the student. Students are encouraged to identify their “driving theories” and “centers of truth,” and to apply theories to issues and problems in their professional lives. Courses are taught by knowledgeable, active professionals, who help students effectively bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-life application. Completion of an original research thesis is optional.
