In the last two years, the Siena Heights Phone-A-Thon has soared to new heights.Using new technology and training methods, the entire process has been rebuilt from the ground up.

The Siena Heights University   Phone-A-Thon closed the fall calling session on Nov. 30th by setting records in both dollars pledged and donors. In a little over two weeks, student callers were able to raise $72,184 in pledges from 1,345 donors. This surpassed last year’s record of $71,415 pledged from 1,092 donors, respectively.

“In the past, using traditional phones and paper forms allowed callers to attempt around 4,000 calls in a month’s time and raise somewhere around $20,000,” said Director of Annual Giving Chad Thompson. “With our new processes and technology in place, our students attempted almost 28,000 calls in two weeks. The efficiency and effectiveness of our Phone-A-Thon has increased dramatically.”

Student callers are trained to use software and are given plenty of role-playing phone calls to get comfortable speaking with Siena’s friends and alumni. The record keeping is now done via laptops so that pledges are recorded automatically by the student callers.  What some may not realize, though, is that financial support is not the only kind of donations that alumni share via the Phone-A-Thon.

“Many alumni share stories with the student callers about their time here at Siena,” Thompson said. “It is very heartwarming to see alumni connecting with our current students. The Siena Heights family stretching across generations is part of what makes the Phone-A-Thon so worthwhile.

“We also get many updates from alumni about their jobs, family, etc. This year, we also handled email address updates from alumni so that they can get our new newsletter, ‘From the Heights,’ delivered automatically to their inbox. When you couple all of that with the fundraising success, it makes the Phone-A-Thon one great tool for Siena.”

Thompson said he would like to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to speak with Siena’s student callers as well as those who support Siena’s mission. Your support does make a difference!
