There’s a new dog in town.

Siena Heights University Athletics introduced its new mascot during a noon pep rally Dec. 3 in the SHU Fieldhouse. “Halo,” a husky dog, was the winning choice from three finalists.

“Halo” will represent Saints Athletics at home games, making his debut at the Dec. 3 men’s basketball game between Siena Heights and cross-town rival Adrian College.

Earlier this fall a contest was conducted on campus to choose the new mascot for Siena Heights Athletics. After more than two dozen entries that were submitted by SHU faculty, staff and students, three finalists were identified. The winner was ultimately chosen by student voting, with more than 300 students casting email ballots.

The winning concept was submitted by senior sport management major Matt Larson. SHU President Sister Peg Albert awarded Larson a $250 grand prize for having the winning entry.
