Siena Heights University recently announced Dalila Beard has accepted the position of Alcohol or Other Drugs coordinator. Beard began her new position at Siena Heights in December 2007.
As the AOD Coordinator, Beard will be responsible for ensuring the task force carries out goals and objectives as outlined by the strategic plan. The Siena Heights University Substance Task Force was established by the Dean for Students during the 2004-2005 academic year. This organization, supported by the Lenawee Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, is a collaboration with SHU faculty, staff, students, and community members who are dedicated to addressing substance abuse issues. The mission of the taskforce is to prevent and reduce alcohol, tobacco and other drug misuse and abuse among SHU students.
“The primary goal of this organization is to develop and carry out campus-wide alcohol and other drug prevention programs that foster students’ academic and social development and promote campus and community safety,” Beard said. “The task force implements multiple prevention strategies that affect the campus environment that include alternative activities, educational programming, policy enforcement, substance abuse training, research and information dissemination.”
Beard has a master’s degree in social work and experience in substance abuse treatment, working as an intake worker and counselor in an adult outpatient treatment program. She also serves as the Substance Abuse Treatment coordinator at Adrian Training School, where she has been responsible for the implementation and oversight of their comprehensive substance abuse treatment program.
