Penny McElroy to Present “A Turning Night of Starts and Other Stories"; Slide Lecture Presentation Jan. 15 in Rueckert Auditorium
Penny McElroy will present her exhibition “A Turning Night of Starts and Other Stories” from Jan. 9-Feb. 7 in the Klemm Gallery in Studio Angelico on the campus of Siena Heights University.
McElroy will present a slide lecture about her work at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 in Rueckert Auditorium in Dominican Hall on the SHU campus.
McElroy, a Professor of Art at the University of Redlands in California, earned her bachelor of art degree in social work from Alma College and her Master of Fine Arts degree in graphics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States, including recently at the Brand Library Art Gallery, Zurich, the University of Arizona Art Museum, the Riverside Art Museum, Huntington Beach Art Center, Fullerton College Art Gallery and the Second City Arts Council.
“Penny combines found objects, poetic texts, symbols, drawings and figurative paintings into small, richly layered collages that explore deeply philosophical and spiritual themes,” said Peter Barr, director of the Klemm Gallery. “If the enigmatic American Surrealist artist Joseph Cornell were alive today – and a woman – he would be making works like these."
Gallery hours are from 10 a.m.4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from noon-4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery will also be open before and after McElroy's Jan. 15 lecture.
