Education

The Teacher Education Program at Siena Heights University focuses on education in its broadest vision. Through rigorous academic study, an abundance of hours in classroom field experience, active participation in the performing and visual arts, and continuous reflection on one’s evolving philosophy of education, the Siena Heights Teacher Education student not only learns from those who have gone before, but also creates imaginative and innovative learning activities that will inspire their students to wholeheartedly engage in the learning process.

The Capstone Experience – Student Teaching is a cooperative endeavor of the personnel of Siena Heights University, the Lenawee County schools, and the Michigan Department of Education. It represents a significant part of the student’s total preparation for teaching. Consisting of a carefully planned sequence of field experiences, directed observations, related activities, conferences, and full-time teaching, it provides on-the-job experience under professional supervision. The comprehensive exit interview allows each student an opportunity to reflect on the entire experience and engage in the process of self-assessment, and provides an opportunity for the university and the teacher education program faculty to evaluate the progress of each candidate toward the achievement of the desired outcomes.
