Personal Achievements

• Awarded an Andrew Mellon Research Grant through the Virginia Historical Society which funded research in their archives.
• Awarded a full-year dissertation writing fellowship through my PhD program. Dissertation was a finalist for BGSU's Outstanding Dissertation Award.

Teaching Philosophy

“My teaching is motivated by compassion for my students; guided by recognition of the social, cultural, and historical contexts of my student’s lives; structured around the importance of processes of critical reading, writing, and thinking and constructive dialogue; and oriented towards a full engagement with the diverse communities of the university and southeast Michigan/northwest Ohio.”
