Recent Awards and Achievements
- Three books of poetry: First Offence, Group Portrait, and Meditations on Desire
- An anthology edited by me: Contemporary Indian Poetry in English, in 1972, is a pioneering text still going strong.
- A memoir entitled, The Ocean in My Yard, published by Penguin Books in 2005.
- A new book of poetry getting final touches.
- Meditations on Desire translated into Arabic and published in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
- Poetry published in leading anthologies of Asian-American, South Asian and World Literature and included in university syllabi all over the world.
- Poetry included in several textbooks currently used in undergrad English classes in Indian Universities.
- Have done readings all over the world.
Teaching Philosophy
To practice a “Crossroads” concept of learning that treats the whole world as a classroom. To train students to think of themselves as world citizens. To instill critical thinking skills in all areas of learning. To establish links among disciplines. To translate academic insights into the art of living a wholesome and purposeful life.
