The Air Force sent her to school, where she completed her master’s degree as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) at Indiana University. Afterward, she continued her Air Force Career as a certified PNP at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas until 2008. She still serves in the Air Force Reserve one weekend a month at the Air National Guard base in Toledo, Ohio. Having the rank of Major, Spahr works as a clinical nurse there and is in charge of the base’s Self-Aid Buddy Care program.
Spahr said she brings a prevention philosophy to Siena Heights. Her goal is to provide students with high-quality health care and education to strengthen their learning and promote lifelong success through health and wellness. “I want students to sustain their physical health and well-being so they can succeed in school and achieve their educational goals - prevention is key.”
Students may visit the Health Services Office for routine and acute medical care, first aid for minor injuries, and health consultation. Immunizations such as influenza, H1N1 and tuberculosis are also available. Nurse Spahr is also available to confidentially discuss sexual health, sexually transmitted diseases, alcohol problems or any other student health concerns.
Coordination of outside care and referrals can also be made as needed. Additionally, Jenny works in collaboration with a local physician and the Lenawee Health Department. If assistance is needed when the nurse is not available, RAs or SHU Campus Safety have access to first aid supplies and are certified in standard First Aid and CPR.
