Getting Started

At Siena Heights University, a quality education is affordable. Once you’ve been accepted to SHU, the next step is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Information from the FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for institutional, federal and state financial aid programs including grants, scholarships, student loans and college work-study.

Four Step Process

  1. The FAFSA should be filed by March 1st of each year at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Siena’s federal school code is 002316 and should be the first school listed:
    Note: Some students may be selected for a process called verification.

    Because the FAFSA is based on the previous year's information, if there is a loss of income, you should still report this actual income. However, we would encourage you to also fill out our request for income reduction form (for dependents) or the request for income reduction form (for independents).

  1. A Financial Aid Award Notice is made available online for you to
    accept, reduce, or decline

  1. Next, you may apply for a Federal Direct Student Loan

  2. Choose your payment option:
    Check, ePayment, or Third party sponsor

What is Verification?


Approximately 1/3 of students are selected for a random process called verification. This means the University is required to obtain copies of the prior year’s federal tax returns for the student and parents (unless the student is defined as independent by FASFA Guidelines). Additionally you must complete a verification worksheet which is available online or thru the Office of Student Financial Services. If you are chosen for verification you will be notified. Please return requested items immediately as your award will not be completed until verification is completed.
