If you are currently a high school student please answer this question: Have or are you currently enrolled in college full or part time? For most students the answer will be no, and that is perfectly acceptable. Therefore, how would you understand all that it means to be college freshmen the minute you step onto campus? As a senior in high school you had four years to learn to navigate the high school system. At Siena we offer you the opportunity to learn about our institution, the concepts of a liberal arts education, our mission, your new community and yourself if the First Year Experience program. College is one of the greatest transitions that a person will face. Siena wants that transition as smooth as possible for all students. All incoming freshmen will participate in FYE, a two semester, three credit hour academic program. The FYE course objectives are:
To introduce you to the mission of Siena Heights University.
To expose you to the benefits of a Siena Heights University education.
To introduce you to the history and mission of the University’s founders and sponsors: the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
To make you aware of campus resources, such as the Writing Lab, the Career Center and the Library.
To help you develop a greater knowledge and understanding of yourself.
To help you develop skills and tools for success at Siena Heights University and in life.
To introduce you to the learning outcomes for the Liberal Arts Studies program at Siena Heights University.
The office primarily works with freshpeople, both commuting and residential. On any given day students come the FYE office for: connections to campus and community resources, questions regarding the FYE class or curriculum, information about Siena Serves projects, the summer reading program, scheduling and general information. The FYE office may not be exactly where a student needs to be, however I can point a student in the right direction.
