School Counseling (CERTIFIED TEACHERS ONLY)

The Master of Arts program in school counseling at Siena is approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) for grades K-12. Two school counseling tracks are offered: one track (48 semester hours) for Michigan certified teachers who are seeking a school counseling (NT) endorsement on their elementary or secondary certificate and a second track (57 hours) for individuals seeking a School Counseling License (SCL). Both tracks require the successful completion of the school counselor component of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification in order to receive the Master of Arts degree. Students in both tracks may also be eligible for the Preliminary Employment Authorization for School Counselors credential prior to graduation upon completion of designated courses and passing the MTTC.

Degree Plan
Early in the program, all students receive a tentative degree plan listing the sequence of courses they are to follow until graduation from the CED program. This tentative degree plan is solely for the purpose of planning and does not guarantee admission to courses nor graduation date. Since many advanced courses have prerequisites, it is important that students consult with their advisor prior to making changes to their plan.
