SUMMARY:
The Director of Multicultural Student Services provides the primary leadership to teach, through relevant programs and services, the value of working with someone that looks and thinks differently than you; to support, retain, and provide the best undergraduate experience to our underrepresented students; and to foster a deeper understanding of students’ sense of self and their interdependence as a multicultural society.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop multicultural programs on campus in collaboration with other offices; particularly the Office of Student Engagement, Campus Ministry, and the Office of International Student Services. Develop programs and services to promote cultural, social support, mentoring, advocacy, leadership development, diversity education, and resources within the larger campus community. Assess current programs and populations regarding diversity issues and use those assessments to propose and develop new initiatives. Create a multicultural resource library center. Serve as a liaison to the campus with minority groups and programs in the local community (i.e.: Martin Luther King Jr. county celebration, NAACP functions, Hispanic Heritage Week, Black History Month, Pride Week, Women’s History Month, etc). Serve as a support and/or advisor to the following student organizations: Students Embracing Experiences in Diversity (SEED; celebration of culture and people), Meaning In Colors (MIC; Black Student Union), Men of Distinction (Men of Color mentoring group), Pride (Gay/Straight Alliance), Wing (Women’s mentoring group). Work with Office of Admissions with a particular focus on recruitment and retention of underrepresented students. Supervision of a graduate assistant with emphasis for implementing restorative justice practices on campus. Conduct on-campus trainings, seminars, and workshops to educate the campus community about diversity issues and community-building opportunities. Plan and manage budgets related to the Multicultural Student Services and campus diversity initiatives. Serve on and possibly chair University-wide committees that have focus on retention initiatives, diversity efforts, and strategic planning.

REQUIREMENTS:
Masters degree in higher education or related field required. Possess a broad-based knowledge of diverse populations including, but not limited to ethnic and racial cultures, faith traditions, and LGBT orientations. Demonstrated knowledge of social justice processes, restorative justice practices, cultural competency, and student development theory. Strong commitment to enhancing multicultural understanding on campus.
