This online faculty position teaches English composition and Liberal Arts courses in the extensive undergraduate online program at Siena Heights University. After a period of time, program coordination of the Liberal Arts Studies courses and English courses offered online and at one or more of the degree completion centers will be required. A full-time faculty position in the College for Professional Studies is a ten-month position with a ten course annual teaching load.
Teach English and Liberal Arts (LAS 301 and LAS 401) courses online using the University approved online course rubric. Collaborate effectively with current faculty across colleges in curriculum development, curricular improvements and refinement. Assist with planning, organizing and designing multi cycle course schedules. Work collaboratively with the center advising staff to effectively support student success. Participate in online training/monthly webinars, professional development and mentoring available at Siena Heights University. This will include the 8-week OLAC (Online Learning Advisory Committee) online faculty training course. Serve on University committees after the first year of orientation. Identify and refer students for writing support and/or tutoring services. Other duties within the scope of the online program or the University at large as defined by the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Senior Liberal Arts Program Coordinator and/ or the Dean of the College for Professional Studies.
A Master’s is required; however strong candidates who are ABD or hold an earned doctorate in English or Communication are preferred. Must live in Michigan to allow for face to face faculty meetings and participation in University communal celebrations, such as Fall/Honors Convocations, Commencement, Common Dialog Day and/ or Ethics Lectures on our main campus in Adrian, MI. Must have grounding in the liberal arts and/ or a multi or interdisciplinary teaching orientation or experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills a must, with a particular ability to develop academic writing abilities of online students. Strong management skills, experience mentoring/leading people as applied to working with new faculty. Computer proficiency and online teaching ability is required. Familiarity with and commitment to creating online learning communities and personalizing the online experience for students. Knowledge of adult learning theory and andragogy. Strong personal and professional integrity required. Must be able to work effectively with little direct supervision. Good interpersonal skills: tact, diplomacy, and collegiality are required.
